American History : 2nd Hour

The study of modern United States History will begin with Changes on the Western Frontier and proceed to the present.  Major emphasis will be on the settlement of the frontier and the Plains Indian Wars, immigration, U.S. Imperialism,  World War I, the Twenties, the Great Depression, World War II, Vietnam, and the Civil Rights Movement; and the cultural groups and their influence on modern U.S. History including early western settlers, immigrant groups, and minorities.  Historical terms and influential persons in modern U.S. History will also be included.

World War I Weapons Project
Students will research a weapon or piece of equipment used in World War I.  Students will provide pictures of the weapon and complete a questionnaire to use as the basis of an oral report.  Students will present their information to the class.

American History Students Visit the Kingman Co. Museum
Students went to the Kingman Co. Museum on Oct. 9th to view many of the artifacts and history they had recently learned about in class.  Everyone had a good time and learned a lot.  See the slide show of the trip in the Multimedia Blog at the upper right hand corner or scroll down toward the bottom of the page for the slideshows.  You must be a member of the class to view I believe.

American History Students Enjoy Chicken and Noodle Lunch
American History students in my class got to enjoy homemade chicken and noodles after a demonstration on how to make the noodles.  They also made real butter by shaking whipping cream in a jar.  They then enjoyed their butter on homemade bread provided by students.  Click the Multimedia Blog to view a slideshow.

American History Students Explore the Wild West
Students recently studied the Changes on the Western Frontier and had been researching characters from the Old West and presenting role plays to the class.  Students also viewed an antique display representing the many aspects of women's work during the pioneer days.  Tuesday the first of September the students attended a demonstration of making egg noodles from scratch and shook cream to make real butter.  Students enjoyed a homecooked chicken and noodle dinner with bread and real butter.
